Speech-Language Pathology

Speech-language pathology, sometimes referred to as speech therapy, focuses on supporting all areas involved in communication. Speech-language pathologists at Milestones evaluate strengths and areas for growth, working with both children and their families to grow their skills across environments. Our therapists utilize a strengths-based approach and incorporate the child’s interests to further their engagement and learning.

 

Some areas that speech-language pathologists can help to support include:

  • Speech sound production
  • Language acquisition – spoken, sign, AAC, additional multimodal communication forms (gesture, body language, etc.)
  • Social communication
  • Literacy skills
  • Fluency
  • Cognition – memory, problem solving, executive functioning
  • Auditory habilitation – auditory processing, communication skills impacted by hearing loss

  • Feeding and swallowing
